Commuters on the Abuja–Kaduna route can finally breathe a sigh of relief, as the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed that passenger train operations will resume next week.

The service was suspended following the August 26 incident that damaged a section of track at Asham. The NRC said it has since completed extensive repairs and safety checks to restore both the tracks and trains to global standards.

In a statement on Saturday, NRC’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, assured passengers that safety and comfort remain the Corporation’s top priority.

The NRC also disclosed that refunds have been processed for 512 of the 583 passengers affected by the suspension, while efforts continue to reach the remaining passengers.

“We appreciate the patience and understanding of our esteemed passengers, as well as the support of the Federal Ministry of Transportation, security agencies, the media, and other stakeholders during this period,” the statement read.

The Corporation added that the official resumption date and train schedule will be released in the coming days.
