The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced a consequential adjustment to the campaign timeline for the Osun State Governorship Election 2026 following the earlier shift in the election date.
INEC said the governorship election in Osun State has been moved forward by one week—from August 8, 2026, to August 15, 2026—as part of the revised timetable and schedule of activities released earlier for the 2027 Nigerian General Election.
As a result of the adjustment, the Commission stated that political parties will now end their campaigns at midnight on Thursday, August 13, 2026.
The Commission explained that the change aligns with provisions of the Electoral Act 2026, which requires that political campaigns must stop at least 24 hours before election day.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, urged political parties, candidates and other stakeholders to comply strictly with the revised timeline.
Haruna said adherence to the electoral timetable is necessary to ensure orderly conduct of the electoral process.
The Commission also reaffirmed its commitment to conducting free, fair, credible and inclusive elections across the country.
INEC had earlier released a revised timetable on February 26, 2026, adjusting activities leading to the 2027 general elections, including the schedule for the Osun governorship poll.
