The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi II, has applauded the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, for what he described as effective leadership and commitment to both national service and community development.

The monarch spoke in Modakeke, Osun State, during an Eid-el-Kabir gathering hosted by Adeniyi, where traditional rulers, political figures, senior Customs officials and community leaders converged to celebrate the festive period.

Oba Ogunwusi said recent commendation by President Bola Tinubu of the Customs boss was a reflection of the confidence reposed in him and the reforms being pursued within the Service.
According to the royal father, the recognition from the President underscores the impact of Adeniyi’s leadership and the progress recorded by the agency in recent years.

He noted that beyond his official responsibilities, the Customs chief has continued to foster unity and maintain strong ties with his roots, describing such qualities as essential attributes of leadership.

The Ooni added that the Ife Kingdom remains proud of Adeniyi’s achievements and would continue to offer support and prayers for his success in office.

The gathering also provided an opportunity for the Customs Comptroller-General to reflect on the agency’s activities and its role in supporting the country’s economic objectives.

Addressing guests, Adeniyi said the significance of Eid-el-Kabir extends beyond celebration, stressing that the occasion serves as a reminder of sacrifice, service, gratitude and commitment to the common good. He said the Nigeria Customs Service has sustained efforts to strengthen revenue generation, improve trade facilitation, curb smuggling activities and deploy technology to modernise its operations.

According to him, ongoing reforms within the Service are aligned with the Federal Government’s economic agenda and are intended to promote legitimate trade, enhance border security and stimulate economic growth.

Adeniyi further highlighted the agency’s growing investment in social intervention programmes, noting that Customs has supported initiatives in education, healthcare and community development across different parts of the country.

He reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to transparency, professionalism and improved service delivery, assuring stakeholders that reforms aimed at enhancing operational efficiency would continue.

The Customs chief also expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve, pledging the agency’s continued support for policies targeted at economic development and national prosperity.

The annual Eid gathering ended with goodwill messages from guests, who commended the Customs leadership for maintaining strong engagement with communities while pursuing institutional reforms.
This version has a stronger newspaper tone, better transitions, less dependence on direct quotes, and a clearer news narrative.
