The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has intensified enforcement of the ban on commercial motorcycles operating along major roads and highways, resulting in the impoundment of 21 motorcycles and the arrest of their riders.
The action, carried out in collaboration with sister security agencies, is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen public safety and curb crime within the territory. A joint enforcement team comprising operatives of Operation Sweep and officials of the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) conducted coordinated checks across key corridors and major routes in Abuja.
In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, the operation targeted commercial motorcyclists found violating existing restrictions on movement along prohibited routes. Those apprehended, she said, were arrested in accordance with relevant laws and regulations.
The police explained that the sustained inter-agency operation is designed to reduce traffic-related offences, prevent the use of motorcycles for criminal activities, and improve overall security across the FCT.
Reaffirming the Command’s resolve, the Commissioner of Police, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, warned that defiance of the ban would continue to attract strict sanctions. He noted that enforcement would be intensified across the six Area Councils to ensure compliance and protect lives and property.
