President Bola Tinubu has applauded the Nigerian capital market for surpassing the historic N100 trillion mark on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX), describing the achievement as a major boost for investors and a signal of Nigeria’s growing economic strength. This was made known through a press release from the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

The President urged Nigerians to deepen investments in the local economy, noting that ongoing reforms are expected to deliver even stronger returns in 2026. He highlighted that while many global markets struggled last year, the NGX All-Share Index closed 2025 with a 51.19% return, up from 37.65% in 2024, outpacing benchmarks such as the S&P 500 and the FTSE 100.

Companies across sectors have contributed to the milestone, from industrial firms that have localised supply chains to banks demonstrating resilience and technological innovation. The pipeline for new listings including energy firms, tech unicorns, telecoms, and infrastructure-heavy companies is robust, promising further growth in market capitalisation and wider participation in the economy.

Beyond the stock market, economic reforms are showing tangible results. Inflation, which peaked at 34.8% in December 2024, slowed to 14.45% in November 2025, with projections indicating it could fall below 10% before year-end. Nigeria’s current account is expected to rise to $18.81 billion in 2026 from $16.94 billion in 2025, while non-oil exports grew 48% in the third quarter of 2025, with African exports up 97%.

Infrastructure and public services are also on the rise. Rail networks are expanding, ports are being revitalised, and major roads are nearing completion. “With the transformative Lagos-Calabar and Sokoto-Badagry superhighways, the nation’s infrastructure is growing,” the President said. Healthcare services are improving, medical tourism costs are declining, and students are benefiting from increased funding through Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) and university research grants.

President Tinubu described the N100 trillion milestone as a signal of Nigeria’s resilience and productivity. He pledged to continue building a transparent, high-growth economy, bolstered by the historic tax and fiscal reforms implemented from January 1, 2026.
