The Nigeria Police Force Zone 7 Headquarters in Abuja has launched an investigation into allegations of extortion involving personnel of its Cybercrime Section following a social media post accusing officers of misconduct.
Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 7, Victor Olaiya, ordered the probe, according to a statement issued by the Zone’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Halima.
The statement noted that the command became aware of the allegations through a social media post circulating online, adding that no formal complaint had been brought to the attention of the Zone’s leadership before the post surfaced.
Zone 7 Headquarters serves as the administrative and supervisory authority over the Federal Capital Territory Police Command and the Niger State Police Command, with the AIG overseeing senior officers responsible for enforcing discipline, professionalism and compliance with existing laws.
It added that the investigation ordered by Olaiya would be comprehensive and aimed at identifying any personnel who might have been involved in the alleged misconduct.
The AIG reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling corrupt practices within the force, stressing that the Zone would not tolerate actions capable of undermining public trust.
According to the statement, any officer found culpable would be dealt with decisively in accordance with the law.
The police also urged members of the public to report incidents of misconduct through appropriate official channels for prompt action.
Zone 7 Headquarters assured residents of the Federal Capital Territory and Niger State of its continued commitment to professionalism, accountability and service delivery.
