The Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has taken a decisive step toward establishing a permanent national headquarters after securing land and obtaining a Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The development came to light during a courtesy visit by the NAWOJ National Executive, led by National Chairperson Hajiya Aisha Ibrahim, to the National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Alhassan Yahaya.

During the engagement, the NAWOJ leadership confirmed that the long-awaited project had cleared all legal and administrative hurdles, culminating in the issuance of the C of O for the designated land.

The association explained that the process was backed by a formal mandate from its National Executive Council (NEC), which approved the acquisition and authorised the leadership to conclude all necessary documentation with relevant authorities in the FCT.

NAWOJ also disclosed that the acquisition cost a total of ₦1,597,000, describing the development as a strategic investment aimed at securing a permanent base for the association’s operations and future expansion.

The NUJ President, Comrade Alhassan Yahya, applauded the move, describing it as a significant institutional achievement that would strengthen the capacity and visibility of NAWOJ within the journalism profession in Nigeria.

He urged the association to move swiftly into the next phase of development and reaffirmed NUJ’s continued support for initiatives that promote professional growth and organizational stability within the media sector.
