Minister Orders Round the Clock Work as NASS Assures Nigerians of Full Value for Money
The Minister of Works, Sen. David Umahi, on Saturday led members of the National Assembly and other stakeholders on an inspection tour of Sections 3A and 3B of the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway covering Akwa Ibom and Cross River States. The 71.4km segment, handled by Hitech Africa Construction Company, is part of the 750km coastal corridor flagged off in April 2025.
Umahi commended the contractor for maintaining quality standards and using advanced equipment, noting that similar excellence enabled them to complete Section I, Phase I in Lagos ahead of schedule. The project, according to him, will include solar lighting, CCTV cameras, and emergency response facilities along its length.
In a statement signed by Mohammed A. Ahmed, Director, 
Press and Public Relations, the Minister expressed confidence that the project would be delivered by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing it as a long-held national dream comparable to major coastal highways around the world. “The God that brought His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to undertake this courageous project is still on the Throne and will sustain him to complete it, setting the country on the path of greatness.” he stated
He urged Nigerians, especially residents in Akwa Ibom and Cross River, to support the project, saying it fulfils longstanding visions of previous administrations, including the Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway and the historic Calabar–Abuja Trans-Saharan route.
Hitech’s Managing Director, Mr. Dany Aboud, assured that the company would deliver the two sections within the 36-month contract period, pledging day-and-night construction and deployment of additional resources to meet deadlines.
Lawmakers on the visit, led by Senate Committee Chairman on Works, Sen. Mpigi Barinada, praised the quality of work and urged Nigerians to understand the heavy earthwork required due to the swampy terrain. They reaffirmed the National Assembly’s support for the Ministry to achieve the President’s infrastructure goals.
The newly deployed Permanent Secretary, Mr. Rafiu Adeladan, and senior engineers in the Ministry also confirmed that the contractor is adhering to approved designs and using high-grade materials expected to ensure durability of the road for generations.
