The Honourable Minister of Works, Senator Engr. Nweze David Umahi, CON, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for what he called a groundbreaking effort to end the long-standing political marginalization of the South East. He urged the region to demonstrate appreciation through overwhelming support for the President in the 2027 General Elections.
Umahi made the remarks during a grand civic reception held in his honor on Saturday, April 19, 2025, in Okposi Okwu, Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. The well-attended event drew a distinguished crowd from across Nigeria.
In a statement signed by Hon. Barr. He lauded the community’s values of unity, gratitude, and progress.
The Minister commended President Tinubu’s historic appointment of a South Easterner as Minister of Works—an unprecedented move since Nigeria’s independence—as a symbol of inclusive leadership. He also referenced the many ongoing federal road projects in the region, describing them as clear indicators of renewed national equity.
The reception was attended by prominent figures including the Governors of Ebonyi, Enugu, and Ogun States: Rt. Hon. Senator Umahi expressed humility over the outpouring of support, noting the solidarity of friends, dignitaries, and well-wishers who traveled from far and wide to honor him.
In their tributes, the Governors of Ebonyi, Enugu, and Ogun described Umahi as a “national asset,” commending his leadership and effectiveness in public service. They affirmed their confidence in his capacity to revamp Nigeria’s road infrastructure under President Tinubu’s administration.
