The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has praised the contributions of the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria to sports development and women’s participation in golf, describing the association as a key partner in fostering national unity and social inclusion.
Tunji-Ojo gave the commendation when he hosted the leadership of LGAN on a courtesy visit at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.
During the meeting, the Minister stressed that collaboration between government institutions and organised groups in the sports sector can support broader national development goals, particularly in promoting discipline, leadership, and youth engagement.He noted that the Ministry of Interior remains focused on its mandate of strengthening internal security, protecting citizenship processes, and improving the efficiency of agencies under its supervision.
Tunji-Ojo also spoke on ongoing reforms aimed at improving public services within the Ministry, citing progress in passport administration and the introduction of electronic gate (e-gate) systems at international airports as part of efforts to modernise operations and enhance travellers’ experience.Leading the LGAN delegation, the association’s President, Lami Onayi Ahmed, thanked the Minister for receiving the group and acknowledged the reforms taking place within the Ministry.
She explained that LGAN serves as the umbrella body for women golfers in the country and works to promote the sport among women while creating opportunities for skill development and international exposure.
Ahmed also commended the Minister’s leadership, noting that the reforms being implemented within the Ministry reflect a commitment to improved governance and alignment with global best practices.
In response, the Minister assured the association that the Ministry would continue to support initiatives that empower women and promote sports development across Nigeria.
He encouraged members of LGAN to continue using sports as a platform to strengthen national unity, promote Nigeria’s image, and contribute to the country’s socio-economic progress.
The meeting ended with both parties expressing interest in strengthening cooperation in areas that advance women’s participation in sports and broader national development.
