The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has assured that the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano highway under construction will be delivered on schedule and built to last a century.
Umahi gave the assurance on Saturday while inspecting Sections One and Two of the project, commending the quality of work and thanking President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support of the landmark road.
“We are constructing roads that will last for 100 years, designed with modern engineering standards, durability, and sustainability in mind. These projects are for the future of our children and the prosperity of our nation,” the Minister said.
The Minister of State for Works, Muhammad Bello Goronyo, described the highway as one of Nigeria’s most strategic transport corridors, linking major cities, boosting trade, and facilitating movement across the North.
During the inspection, the Director of Highways, Construction and Rehabilitation, Engr. Clement Ogbuagu, noted that while Section One had recorded commendable progress, Section Two was lagging behind with only 3 per cent completion against a 40 per cent target. He urged contractors to scale up operations to meet delivery deadlines.
Engr. Chukwuma Kalu, representing the Works Ministry on site, reported that Section One, a 40.5km dual carriageway on concrete pavement had achieved significant milestones, with 22km already completed on both lanes.
He added that the 17.3km Kano section and the 6.63km dual carriage airport access road were also nearing completion, noting that the airport road was fully completed and ready for commissioning.
Engr. Kalu reiterated that the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano highway remains one of the Federal Government’s flagship projects.
