Abuja — Venora Holdings Limited has entered into a strategic partnership with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council Correspondents’ Chapel, to promote media professionalism and improve journalists’ welfare.

The partnership was announced during a courtesy visit by executives of the Chapel to the Managing Director of Venora Holdings, Mr Ayodeji Torey, in Abuja, where he pledged sustained collaboration and support for journalists’ capacity building and improved working conditions.

Torey said the company remains committed to supporting initiatives that enhance professional development and reaffirmed Venora Holdings’ readiness to work with the Chapel on programmes that would improve journalists’ wellbeing and productivity.

Chairman of the NUJ FCT Correspondents’ Chapel, Comrade Felix Ojo, commended Torey’s leadership and highlighted his contributions to staff welfare, citing policies such as competitive remuneration, health insurance, empowerment initiatives, vacation sponsorships, and the promotion of sportsmanship as evidence of his commitment to human development.

Ojo also noted that journalists operate under limited funding, stressing that the Chapel recently organised a programme titled “Opportunities for Collective Bargaining and Unionism in Place of Welfare” to explore sustainable solutions to members’ welfare challenges, while also appealing for support towards the acquisition of a chapel bus to improve mobility.

In recognition of Venora Holdings’ workplace standards, the Chapel presented Torey with an Award of Excellence in Workplace Practice. Receiving the award, he expressed appreciation and described the honour as a surprise. “This recognition belongs to my team. They are the ones doing the real work behind the scenes,” he said. “We do not support people for applause; we do so because it is the right thing to do.”
