Abuja – The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, is in mourning following the tragic death of one of its members, Mr. Sunday Olatuyi, who was fatally struck by a vehicle at Lugbe Bus Stop, Abuja, on the night of Saturday, December 20, 2025.

Olatuyi, a 40-year-old Senior Cameraman with Advocate Broadcasting Network (ADBN Television) and a former staff of Ben TV, was reportedly hit by a Toyota Corolla with registration number ABUJA RBC 128 AM while returning home from work. He was accompanied by a friend at the time of the accident.

A native of Odo-Oro Ekiti, Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Olatuyi is survived by his wife, a seven-month-old daughter, Eniola, and his elderly mother. His untimely death has left a deep void within the NUJ FCT family and the broader journalism community, where he was known for his dedication, professionalism, and active participation in union affairs.

The NUJ FCT Council condemned the circumstances surrounding the accident, describing it as a tragic consequence of reckless driving and disregard for human life. The union has called on the authorities to ensure a thorough investigation and the prompt prosecution of the driver responsible. “Justice must not only be done but must also be seen to be done,” the Council stated, emphasizing the need for accountability and deterrence.

Extending its condolences, the NUJ FCT Council expressed solidarity with Olatuyi’s family, colleagues at ADBN Television, the Correspondents’ Chapel, the Society of Practicing Cameramen, and all friends and associates of the deceased. The union assured the bereaved family of its continued support and commitment to following up on the case until justice is achieved.
May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.
