The Federal Government has given the contractor handling the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) office in Abeokuta, Ogun State, a strict one-month ultimatum to complete work on the long-abandoned facility.
This directive followed an unscheduled on-the-spot inspection by the Honourable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Kunle Salako, on Thursday, 12th February 2026. The visit came after a video circulated on social media highlighting the dilapidated state of the NHIA office.
During the inspection, Dr. Salako expressed concern over the prolonged abandonment of the building and its implications for effective health insurance service delivery in the state. He underscored the Federal Government’s commitment to revitalising critical health infrastructure as part of broader reforms in the health sector.
It was discovered that the facility had not yet been formally handed over to NHIA management by the contractor. Consequently, the Minister mandated that all necessary facilities be installed within one month from the inspection date to ensure the office becomes fully functional for NHIA staff.
“No public health asset should be left to waste, especially at a time when efforts are being intensified to expand access to affordable healthcare for Nigerians,” Dr. Salako said.
He further assured stakeholders that appropriate steps would be taken to guarantee the facility is put to productive use, emphasizing the urgency of meeting the set deadline for the benefit of Ogun State residents.
