The Honourable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, has charged the newly appointed Registrar of the Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria (RRBN), Dr. Idris Garba, to modernize the profession through digitalization and eliminate quackery from radiography practice.

In a press release issued on Friday by Ado Bako, Assistant Director, Information and Public Relations, Dr. Salako explained that leveraging technology is key to improving healthcare delivery. The Minister noted that a digital system would make it easier to identify licensed radiographers within Nigeria and abroad while tracking unregistered practitioners.

“Your ethical standards and enforcement of professional codes are crucial. We also want you to address quackery seriously, deploying all available resources to protect the integrity of radiography,” Dr. Salako said.

Highlighting the transparent process that led to Dr. Garba’s appointment, the Minister encouraged him to draw on his expertise to strengthen the Board and contribute to the growth of Nigeria’s health sector.

“Under your leadership, the
profession will grow, and your contributions will be felt across the health system,” he added.

Dr. Garba, a graduate of Bayero University Kano, expressed appreciation for his appointment and promised to maintain the achievements of his predecessor. He emphasized that his leadership would be open and inclusive, ensuring that day-to-day activities at the Board are well-coordinated and transparent.

“Through digital tools, we will monitor activities across all centers nationwide with just a click. Ensuring adequate staffing, compliance, and professionalism in every center is a top priority. Addressing quackery is equally important,” Dr. Garba said.

He revealed that creating a comprehensive database of licensed radiographers and operational centers would be his first initiative. This will allow the Board to track activities, enforce regulations, and collaborate closely with professional associations to achieve shared goals.

Representing the Permanent Secretary, Daju Kachollom S., mni, Dr. Adeola Adegoke, mni, Director of Hospital Services, praised Dr. Salako for his dedication and visionary leadership, noting the importance of thorough and transparent governance in regulatory institutions.

Dr. Garba’s appointment signals a renewed focus on modernizing radiography services and ensuring that only qualified professionals operate in Nigeria’s healthcare system.
