Captain Wada Backs Rotational Governorship in Kogi State

Former governor urges power rotation for fairness, explains shift to APC after PDP’s internal collapse; says Kogi airport will unlock growth.

 

Former Executive Governor of Kogi State, Captain Idris Ichalla Wada, has expressed his support for the rotational governorship agitation in the state, describing it as a viable path toward political inclusivity. Speaking with Liberal News during Nigeria’s 100 Years of Aviation Centenary celebration, Wada emphasised the need for careful planning and implementation to ensure the system works effectively. “It’s a good idea, we need to work on it and make sure it works. I support it,” he said.

Wada also highlighted the importance of infrastructure in driving economic growth in Kogi, pointing to the ongoing construction of a state airport as a critical development. “I think we are building an airport now; let’s finish the airport, and then we will see what other opportunities arise. The airport is the nucleus for development, once it is completed, other industries and businesses will follow,” he said, underlining the strategic role of air transport in attracting investment and creating jobs.

While aviation remains a focus for Wada, he briefly touched on his recent political shift from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), explaining that the move was driven by the PDP’s internal challenges and the APC’s demonstrated resilience. “PDP have a lot of problems, and selfish people have destroyed the party. There is nothing left for me there. APC is moving forward, resolving issues, and I want to help this country to grow and develop, and APC is the vehicle,” he said.

At the centenary event, Wada was among the veterans honoured for their contributions to Nigeria’s aviation industry. While he appreciated the recognition, he stressed that his focus remains on actionable development for Kogi State and Nigeria at large.
