Seventy four Inspectors of Police have been promoted to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP II) following a ceremony led by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 7, AIG Victor Olaiya. The event, held at the Zone 7 Headquarters, brought together senior police officers, families of the promotees, and distinguished guests.
In a press release issued by ASP Mohammed Halima, Police Public Relations Officer on Thursday, 12 February, 2026, the promotions were recommended by Inspector-General of Police, IGP OluKayode Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, and approved by the Police Service Commission, reflecting the Force’s ongoing commitment to recognizing professionalism and dedication among its personnel.
Alongside the decoration, a General Lecture session addressed key topics including effective communication, social media policy, public relations, extortion, assault, and unlawful detention. The session aimed to reinforce ethical conduct, respect for citizens’ rights, and professional standards across the Force.
In his remarks, AIG Olaiya congratulated the officers, urging them to view their new ranks not just as titles but as a responsibility to serve with integrity, accountability, and respect for human rights. He emphasized that promotion brings a higher duty to uphold the core values of the Nigeria Police Force.
The AIG also issued a stern warning against misconduct, making it clear that extortion, assault, and unlawful detention would not be tolerated under any circumstances. “Officers found wanting will face severe disciplinary action in line with the law and Force regulations,” he stressed.
Responding on behalf of the promotees, ASP Mordy Kennedy expressed gratitude to the IGP, Police Service Commission, and AIG Olaiya for the recognition. He assured that the newly promoted officers would remain committed to the ethics and standards of the Force.
The Nigeria Police Force continues to pursue reforms aimed at building a more effective, people-oriented, and service-driven institution.
