National leadership orders immediate restructuring; Kogi chapter accuses expelled lawmaker of ingratitude, anti-party conduct

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has formally ratified the expulsion of Hon. Leke Abejide, member representing Yagba Federal Constituency, following a series of alleged infractions described as “acts of indiscipline.”

The decision was endorsed by the National Working Committee (NWC) during its meeting held Thursday at the party’s National Headquarters in Abuja. According to the party, the action affirms its commitment to upholding discipline, character, and integrity across all levels.

National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, who issued the statement, said the NWC has also directed the Kogi State leadership to immediately fill vacant positions in ward, local government, and state executive structures in line with approved transition guidelines ahead of the party’s forthcoming congresses.

In a similar development, the Kogi State Chairman of the party, Kingsley Temitope Ogah, has urged members to remain focused and not be swayed by what he called the “antics” of the expelled lawmaker. Addressing all 21 local government chairmen and zonal leaders in Lokoja on Wednesday, Ogah described Abejide as a “political orphan” who rose to relevance solely through the platform provided by the ADC.

Ogah alleged that Abejide, after losing primaries in both the PDP and APC in 2015, approached the ADC “begging” for a ticket, the party worked tirelessly to help him win. He added that in 2019, Abejide received the ticket “on a platter of gold” without paying for nomination forms, only to now “ridicule the party that made him.”

He further accused the lawmaker of attempting to destabilize the party, likening his actions to “how Nyesom Wike destroyed the PDP,” and alleging that Abejide has verbally attacked respected figures including former Senate President David Mark, Senator Tunde Ogbeha, and Senator Dino Melaye.

Describing Abejide as a “political Lilliputian challenging giants,” Ogah maintained that the suspension remains in force, insisting there are no factions within the ADC in Kogi Stateonly “a group of dissenters who are mere noise makers chasing shadows.”

The chairman called on party executives to intensify grassroots mobilization, including encouraging voter registration and PVC collection, noting that the ADC “is already rooted in Kogi State,” having placed third in the last governorship election. He added that the party is poised to perform strongly in the upcoming local government polls “if fairness and transparency are upheld.”

Ogah also expressed optimism ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying Nigerians are “tired of the ruling party” and that the ADC is well positioned to take advantage of the growing discontent.
