The Honourable Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with state legislatures to enhance internal security, governance, and public service delivery across Nigeria.

The minister made this known on Thursday while receiving members of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, led by its Chairman and Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, during a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Interior headquarters in Abuja.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Ministry’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Mrs. Mary Ali, Tunji-Ojo commended the Conference for its proactive approach to partnership and nation-building, describing state legislatures as critical stakeholders in Nigeria’s governance framework.

He said that sustainable reforms in internal security and civic administration require stronger synergy between federal and state institutions, assuring the delegation that its requests and proposals for collaboration would receive due consideration in line with existing government policies and national priorities.

The minister also reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to implementing people-centred reforms aimed at improving national security, strengthening border management, and enhancing the integrity of Nigeria’s internal governance systems.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Guwor congratulated Tunji-Ojo on what he described as his reform-driven leadership at the Ministry, saying that his performance reflects the confidence reposed in him by Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He said the Conference of Speakers, as representatives of state legislatures closest to the grassroots, remains a vital partner in supporting policies and reforms that directly affect citizens across the country.

Guwor called for deeper collaboration between the Conference and the Ministry, particularly in areas that promote national cohesion, strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture, and improve public service delivery.

He further affirmed the readiness of State Houses of Assembly to provide the legislative backing required to advance the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The meeting ended with both parties reaffirming their commitment to sustained engagement, strategic cooperation, and stronger institutional partnerships to improve governance, enhance internal security, and deliver better services to Nigerians.
