Abuja to host high-level health security dialogue on March 30, bringing together Nigerian and Chinese officials to strengthen pandemic preparedness and global health collaboration

By Joy Onu

Nigeria will hold a high-level health security dialogue with China next week in Abuja, aimed at boosting pandemic preparedness and response strategies.

In a press statement, Ado Bako, Assistant Director, Information and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, said the dialogue, titled “Lessons on Pandemic Preparedness and Response: Insights from China and Nigeria,” is scheduled for Monday, March 30, 2026, and will be hosted by the ministry as part of efforts to reinforce global health security and build resilient healthcare systems following lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The meeting will bring together senior government officials, global health institutions, policymakers, and scientists from both countries. Discussions will focus on strengthening disease surveillance and early warning systems, improving emergency response coordination, and building more resilient health systems. Participants will also explore strategies to enhance risk communication and foster public trust during health crises.

The statement highlighted that the dialogue will provide a platform to deepen cooperation between Nigeria and China in public health research and innovation, laboratory systems, pathogen surveillance, technology transfer, and professional capacity development.

A press briefing will follow the dialogue to outline its key outcomes, while participants are expected to share insights on strengthening health systems and pandemic preparedness.

The dialogue is expected to reinforce Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to create a more resilient health system through strategic international partnerships.
