The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kogi State has formally presented nomination forms to its successful candidates ahead of next year’s Local Government elections, marking a significant step in the party’s preparations for the polls and its efforts to strengthen grassroots participation.

According to a press release issued by Mamman Akpena, Secretary of the Leke Abejide led ADC, the presentation ceremony took place at the party’s state secretariat in Lokoja and involved candidates from various local government areas across the state.

The presentation comes as the ADC in Kogi State continues to navigate internal differences between rival factions. The Leke Abejide led faction has emphasized unity and adherence to due process in its activities, highlighting its commitment to transparent primaries and inclusive engagement with party members across the state.

Speaking at the event, the Kogi State factional Chairman of the party, Hon. Sunday Maiyaki, alongside the state secretary, praised the National Leader of the ADC, Right Honourable Leke Abejide, for personally purchasing nomination forms for all candidates who emerged victorious during the party’s primaries.

Maiyaki revealed that the gesture was extended to all councillorship candidates of the party, describing it as a demonstration of the leadership’s commitment to strengthening the party at the grassroots level.

He further noted that the party’s primary elections were conducted in line with due process, adding that no petitions were received from any local government area, which he said reflected broad acceptance of the process by party members and local communities.

Party leaders and candidates were urged to return to their respective local government areas to intensify grassroots mobilisation and sensitisation on the ADC’s manifesto, with a view to attracting more members and supporters ahead of the elections.

Responding on behalf of the successful candidates, Oladimeji Obaro, the ADC candidate for Mopa-Amuro Local Government Area, assured the party leadership of their readiness to effectively project and deliver the ADC’s manifesto to the grassroots. He expressed confidence that the party’s growing activities under the leadership of Hon. Leke Abejide would ensure a smooth campaign across all 21 local government areas of Kogi State.

The highlight of the programme was the formal presentation of nomination forms to three chairmanship candidates and several councillorship aspirants of the party.
