The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), FCT Chapter, and the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) are set to formalise a strategic partnership aimed at advancing women’s economic empowerment and strengthening Nigeria’s industrial raw materials development.

The collaboration will be sealed through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focused on research, innovation, and inclusive economic participation, with emphasis on creating sustainable opportunities for women.

The initiative also aligns with efforts to boost value addition in Nigeria’s raw materials sector as preparations intensify for the maiden 2026 African Raw Materials Summit scheduled for June.

The development was disclosed during a courtesy visit by NAWOJ FCT executives to the Director-General of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council, Prof. Nnanyelugo Ike-Muonso, in Abuja.

Speaking during the visit, the Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists FCT Chapter, Comrade Bassey Ita Ikpang, reaffirmed the association’s commitment to women and children’s advocacy and highlighted the media’s role in national development.

She said NAWOJ FCT, with about 350 female journalists across print, electronic, and digital platforms, remains committed to professionalism, visibility, and impactful advocacy.

Ikpang also announced plans for a grassroots outreach programme tagged “Marketplace Advocacy,” scheduled for April 30, aimed at engaging women directly at the community level on health, education, and civic participation ahead of the 2027 elections.

In his response, Prof. Ike-Muonso commended NAWOJ for its advocacy efforts and reaffirmed RMRDC’s commitment to innovation, local resource utilisation, and industrial growth in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.

A major highlight of the visit was the decoration of the RMRDC Director-General as Patron of NAWOJ FCT in recognition of his leadership and contributions to inclusive development.
