Urges stronger collaboration with NIMC to drive global digital economy participation

The Minister of State for Works, Muhammad Bello Goronyo, Esq., has thrown his weight behind Nigeria’s digital identity drive, describing secure digital systems as critical to the country’s participation in the global economy.

Goronyo spoke on Tuesday at the 7th National Day of Identity Celebrations, held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja. The event was organized by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) under the leadership of its Director General, Engr. (Dr.) Abisoye Coker-Odusote.

Applauding the theme of this year’s celebration “Public Key Infrastructure: The Backbone to Digital Public Infrastructure” the minister said Nigeria’s development rests not only on highways and bridges but also on “digital highways” that provide citizens access to opportunities, services, and safety.

He explained that the Ministry of Works is working to ensure that road projects complement the nation’s digital infrastructure, noting that both physical and digital systems must advance together under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Goronyo stressed that a secure and inclusive identity system is essential for Nigeria’s full participation in the digital economy. He assured stakeholders that the Ministry will continue to collaborate with NIMC and other agencies to build integrated frameworks that empower citizens and support sustainable national development.
