Goronyo says synergy will ease highways, boost AfCFTA trade

Nigeria must link its roads and railways to unlock growth, cut logistics costs, and ease pressure on highways, the Minister of State for Works, Muhammad Bello Goronyo, has said.

Speaking at the 2nd International Railway Conference in Abuja, jointly organized by the Ministry of Transportation and the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), Goronyo described efficient transport as the backbone of sustainable development.

“No nation can grow without an integrated transport system,” he told participants, urging closer synergy between road and rail infrastructure to open new trade and investment opportunities.

The minister revealed that the Works Ministry is already reshaping its projects to connect major roads with railway lines, ports, dry ports, and logistics hubs. He said the effort fits into President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which targets a multimodal transport network to strengthen Nigeria’s role in the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

Goronyo pledged stronger collaboration with the Ministry of Transportation and private stakeholders to build a modern system that supports industry, eases regional trade, and benefits future generations.

He also challenged participants to turn their discussions into concrete policies, investments, and partnerships, stressing that “Nigeria’s sustainable development depends on it.”
