Nigeria’s road infrastructure renewal has received a major boost as the Federal Government and the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) agreed to strengthen collaboration on key road and bridge projects across the country.

According to a press statement issued by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Mohammed A. Ahmed, the agreement was reached during a meeting held on October 22, 2025, between the Minister of Works, Engr. David Nweze Umahi, and a delegation from the IsDB Regional Hub in Nigeria, led by Mr. Ibrahim Chalive, Team Leader, Operations.

The statement noted that discussions focused on advancing cooperation between the Federal Ministry of Works, the Federal Ministry of Finance, and the IsDB to finance and implement key components of the Four Renewed Hope Legacy Road Projects under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

Umahi reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to transparent, innovative, and cost-effective project delivery, describing road infrastructure as a major driver of economic growth, job creation, and national integration. He also appreciated the National Assembly for its continued support, particularly in facilitating funding interventions for infrastructure projects, and acknowledged the Islamic Development Bank’s sustained partnership in Nigeria’s development journey.

In his remarks, Mr. Chalive commended the Ministry’s reforms in engineering design, quality assurance, and project management, assuring that the Bank remains committed to providing financial and technical support to strengthen Nigeria’s infrastructure base.

The statement further revealed that both parties agreed to establish a joint technical team to identify priority projects and develop a framework that ensures accountability, transparency, and timely execution.

Also present at the meeting was the Special Assistant to the President on Stakeholders Engagement (South East), Barr. Chioma Nweze.

The renewed collaboration, according to the Ministry, marks another milestone in the Tinubu administration’s effort to modernise Nigeria’s road network and advance sustainable national development.
