The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has foiled an attempted theft at its 330/132kV transmission substation in Bauchi, where suspected vandals abandoned a pickup truck and critical transmission tower components while fleeing from security personnel.
In a statement issued on Monday, the company’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, said security personnel on duty intercepted suspected vandals at about 9:34 p.m. on Friday, July 24, as they attempted to remove critical tower members from the company’s 330/132kV transmission substation in Bauchi.
She said the suspects fled on sighting the guards, leaving behind 12 transmission tower angle irons, a heavy-duty metal measuring scale and a white pickup truck believed to have been used in the operation.
Mbah said the recovered materials and the vehicle had been handed over to the Railway Division Police Station in Bauchi for further investigation. She added that no transmission equipment was stolen or damaged during the failed operation, while no injuries were recorded.
She commended the prompt response and vigilance of the security personnel, noting that their swift action prevented damage to critical electricity infrastructure.
The TCN spokesperson also urged residents of host communities to support efforts to protect power installations by reporting suspicious activities to security agencies or the nearest TCN office, stressing that public vigilance remains essential to safeguarding the nation’s transmission network.
