Electricity supply to parts of Imo, Bayelsa and Rivers states is expected to improve following the restoration of two major transmission lines that serve the affected areas.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) said the Alaoji–Owerri 132kV transmission corridor has returned to full operation after emergency repairs were carried out on faults that disrupted power transmission earlier this week.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by its General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the company said engineers were deployed to the affected locations immediately after the faults were detected.

According to TCN, repair works on one of the lines enabled a partial restoration of electricity transmission to some communities while efforts continued to return the second line to service.

The company explained that maintenance personnel had to observe additional safety measures during the operation due to the proximity of the two high-voltage lines. This included the temporary shutdown of one line to allow engineers safely complete repairs on the adjacent facility.

TCN said the restoration exercise was undertaken with the approval of the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) and in collaboration with the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) and the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC).

With both lines now back in service, the transmission corridor is operating at full capacity, enabling electricity distributors to receive and deliver power to consumers across the affected states.

The development is expected to bring relief to households and businesses that experienced disruptions following the fault, while improving the stability of power supply within the coverage areas of EEDC and PHEDC.

TCN apologised for the inconvenience caused by the outage and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a reliable transmission network for efficient electricity delivery nationwide.
