The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has applauded the Nigerian Army for sustaining a secure operational environment that continues to support the deployment and service of Corps Members across the country.
He gave the commendation during a courtesy visit to the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, in Jos, Plateau State.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by Caroline Embu, Director, Information and Public Relations, the NYSC boss said the Scheme’s effectiveness is closely tied to the presence of peace and stability, noting that security agencies remain key partners in sustaining its nationwide mandate.
Nafiu expressed appreciation to the 3 Division for what he described as consistent efforts in maintaining a safe environment for corps deployment, adding that the jurisdiction has not recorded any cancellation of orientation programmes on security grounds.
He stated that the Scheme cannot operate optimally in an atmosphere of insecurity, stressing that the cooperation of the armed forces has been instrumental to its continuity.
The NYSC DG said that more than 7,000 Corps Members are currently posted to Plateau State, where they are engaged in various assignments that support development at the community and institutional levels.
He further noted that the NYSC continues to serve as a platform for national integration, bringing young Nigerians together through shared service, cultural exposure, and civic engagement.
Nafiu added that Corps Members play a significant supporting role in critical sectors, especially health and education, where their deployment helps strengthen service delivery in public institutions.
He also sought continued collaboration with the military, explaining that ongoing internal reforms within the NYSC are aimed at improving efficiency and strengthening overall operations.
In response, the GOC of 3 Division, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, commended the NYSC leadership for its reform initiatives and described the Director General as a strong representative of the institution.
Oyinlola praised the dedication of NYSC officials and Corps Members in Plateau State, noting that their presence and work continue to make visible impact across communities.
He reaffirmed the readiness of the 3 Division to sustain its support for the safety and welfare of Corps Members within its area of responsibility.
