The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has entered into a strategic partnership with the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX) to introduce Corps members to financial literacy, stock market investment and savings culture as part of efforts to improve their financial capacity after national service.

The collaboration was unveiled during a visit by the Director-General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, to the Nigerian Exchange Group in Lagos, where he also participated in the Exchange’s Closing Gong Ceremony.

Addressing officials of the Exchange, Nafiu said the initiative would expose thousands of Corps members to the fundamentals of the capital market and broaden their understanding of investment opportunities available within Nigeria’s financial system.

He described the partnership as a significant milestone for the Scheme, noting that despite the NYSC’s 53-year history, structured collaboration with the nation’s capital market had not been explored until now.

According to him, integrating financial education into the orientation of Corps members would help prepare young graduates to make informed financial decisions, embrace a culture of savings and explore legitimate wealth creation opportunities.

“This partnership is a commitment to the future by equipping the NYSC to participate in the capital market,” Nafiu said, adding that the initiative would empower young Nigerians with financial knowledge capable of transforming their economic prospects.

Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group, Alhaji Umaru Kwairanga, welcomed the collaboration, describing the NYSC as one of Nigeria’s most enduring platforms for promoting national unity and youth development.

He said the partnership would provide Corps members with greater access to financial education while encouraging a stronger savings culture and increased participation in the nation’s investment ecosystem.

Kwairanga added that the Nigerian financial sector offers numerous opportunities that young people can leverage to build long-term wealth and contribute to economic growth.

Also speaking, the Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Exchange Limited, Mr. Jude Chiemeka, said the Exchange currently hosts more than 323 listed securities, giving investors a wide range of investment options across different sectors.

Chiemeka described Nigeria as a frontier market that continues to attract investor confidence and expressed optimism that the partnership with the NYSC would deepen awareness of the capital market among young graduates.

He also noted that the Nigerian Exchange maintains collaborative relationships with leading stock exchanges across the world, a development he said strengthens its position within the global investment landscape.
