GORONYO HAILS SOKOTO’S Citizen DRIVEN BUDGET, HIGHLIGHTS TINUBU’S NATIONAL ROAD EXPANSION

Minister praises Governor Aliyu’s development achievements and outlines key federal road projects improving connectivity across Nigeria.

 

The Minister of State for Works, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Bello Goronyo, Esq., has commended Sokoto State for its citizen inclusive approach to the 2026 budget, calling the Citizens’ Town Hall Meeting a model of participatory governance. This was contained in a statement issued to the press by the Special Adviser (Media) to the Honourable Minister of State for Works, on Thursday, 18th November, 2025.

Held at the Sultan Maccido Institute for Qur’an and General Studies, the forum brought together communities, civil society groups and stakeholders who contributed directly to the budgeting process. Goronyo said the initiative demonstrates transparency and public accountability, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision for people centred governance. “This platform empowers citizens to contribute meaningfully to the 2026 budget process. It is a clear demonstration of true participatory democracy,” he said.

The Minister praised Governor Ahmed Aliyu for remarkable progress in urban renewal and infrastructure, noting that the city’s transformation during an early-morning tour briefly made him think he was “in Dubai.” He added that the Governor’s Nine-Point Agenda aligns with President Tinubu’s Eight-Point Priority Agenda, reflecting a unified development vision.

During the event, Goronyo outlined President Tinubu’s nationwide road expansion programme, describing it as a strategic intervention to improve economic connectivity. Key projects include the 1,068 km Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway; the 750 km Coastal Highway from Badagry to Calabar; the 456 km Ebonyi–Edo–Benue–Nasarawa–Abuja corridor; the 336 km Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe Highway; and the reconstruction of the Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano Road, which remains a federal priority.

He also highlighted NNPC-funded rehabilitation of the Sokoto–Gusau–Funtua–Zaria–Kaduna corridor, with contractors CCB, Diacater, Mothercat and Triacta mobilised to deliver quality work. Goronyo credited Sokoto’s progress to the strong partnership between Governor Aliyu and President Tinubu, describing the Governor as “a true son of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu” whose requests receive prompt presidential attention, and urged him to sustain the development momentum.
