Four-Hour Power Outage to Hit Kano, Jigawa, Katsina as Grid Maintenance Begins Sunday

Residents of Kano, Jigawa and Katsina States will experience a temporary interruption in electricity supply on Sunday as authorities carry out scheduled maintenance on key transmission infrastructure.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) announced that supply will be disrupted between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, 2026, to allow engineers carry out essential upgrade works at the 330kV Kumbotso Substation.
The maintenance exercise, being undertaken by the Transmission Company of Nigeria, is part of efforts to strengthen the national grid and improve the stability and efficiency of electricity transmission across the affected region.
During the four-hour period, households and businesses across the three states are expected to experience a temporary blackout.
The system operator explained that the upgrade is aimed at enhancing grid reliability and expanding transmission capacity to reduce system faults and improve overall power delivery.
While acknowledging the inconvenience the outage may cause, NISO appealed for public understanding, noting that the intervention is necessary for long-term improvements in electricity supply.
