The Federal Government has announced Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays to mark the Eid-ul-Adha celebration across the country.

The declaration was conveyed in a statement issued on Monday by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani.

The government said the holiday arrangement is in line with its commitment to recognising the religious diversity of Nigerians and respecting the significance of major faith-based celebrations, particularly Eid-ul-Adha, which holds deep meaning for Muslims worldwide.

In his message, Tunji-Ojo congratulated Muslim faithful in Nigeria and abroad, noting that the season reflects core Islamic values such as sacrifice, devotion, humility, and generosity.

He encouraged Nigerians to embrace the holiday period as an opportunity for prayers and reflection on the nation’s challenges, especially in the areas of security, unity, and economic development.

The minister further appealed for greater tolerance among citizens, stressing that national progress depends on sustained harmony and understanding across religious and ethnic lines.

The Federal Government extended warm wishes to Muslims for a peaceful and fulfilling Eid-ul-Adha celebration.
