The Federal Government has ordered the immediate opening of all accessible sections of the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano Road to ease traffic congestion and improve the movement of travelers ahead of the Eid al-Adha celebrations.

The directive was issued by the Minister of Works, David Umahi, who instructed the contractor handling the highway rehabilitation project, Infiouest Nigeria Limited, to ensure that commuters enjoy safer and smoother journeys during the festive period.

In a press statement released on Monday by the Minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, Francis Nwaze, the ministry said the intervention became necessary due to the expected increase in vehicular movement along the busy corridor during the Sallah holidays.

The ministry also confirmed that an earlier accident recorded along the highway had been completely cleared, restoring traffic flow on the affected section. According to the Minister, to strengthen security and prevent possible disruptions, security agencies have been deployed to strategic locations along the route to maintain law and order and protect travelers throughout the celebration period.

The Abuja–Kaduna–Kano highway remains one of Nigeria’s busiest transport corridors, linking the Federal Capital Territory with several northern states and serving as a major route for commercial and passenger transportation.

The government’s latest move is expected to bring temporary relief to motorists who have repeatedly complained about delays, traffic bottlenecks, and difficulties caused by ongoing reconstruction works on the road.
