The Federal Ministry of Works has inaugurated new executives for its Sports Club and honoured staff members for their contributions to sports and public service.

The ceremony, held on Wednesday at the Ministry’s Conference Hall in Mabushi, Abuja, drew senior officials, staff, and invited guests.

Representing the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, the Minister of State, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, commended the outgoing executives for their service and urged the new team to sustain the momentum. He described sports as essential to staff welfare, workplace cohesion, and overall productivity.

“Sports go beyond recreation,” Goronyo said. “They promote unity, discipline, and a culture of excellence within the Service.” He also announced his membership in the Club as its second Grand Patron.

Director of Human Resources, Aliyu Abdullahi, who spoke on behalf of the Permanent Secretary, praised management’s efforts in promoting staff welfare through sports. He encouraged broader participation in physical activities for both health and team building.

The National President of the Federation of Public Service Games (FEPSGA), Comrade Aluko Amoebi Aca, mni, also addressed the gathering, applauding the Ministry’s involvement in public service sports and promising continued collaboration.

Highlights of the event included award presentations to individuals and teams recognised for their dedication, discipline, and sportsmanship. A sensitisation session was also held to promote regular participation in activities such as the Public Service Games, monthly jogging, and aerobics.

The event reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to fostering a healthier, more united workforce through sports.
