CRA Alerts FG on ISWAP’s Control of 80 Communities in Benue, Plateau Amid Renewed Terror Attacks

The Christian Rights Agenda (CRA) has expressed grave concern over the ongoing terror attacks in Benue, Plateau, and other parts of Nigeria, highlighting the growing danger to the lives of Christians and innocent Nigerians. The organization’s warning comes after weeks of violent attacks that have claimed lives, destroyed properties, and left many displaced.

In a statement issued on Sunday, CRA noted that the attacks appear to be well-coordinated and have all the hallmarks of a terrorist campaign. The organization condemned the violence, pointing to the dangerous escalation of religious intolerance and anarchy.

Reverend Kallamu Musa Dikwa, Secretary-General of CRA, revealed that the organization has dispatched field officers to Benue, Plateau, and Borno states to assess the scale of the devastation. Early reports from these operations indicate that more than 80 communities in these areas have fallen under the control of Fulani terrorists. This growing presence of insurgents, particularly associated with ISWAP (Islamic State West Africa Province), is seen as a major threat to the region.

The CRA is currently compiling a detailed report on the extent of Christian persecution in northern Nigeria, particularly in these troubled states. The organization is working to provide up-to-date data on the situation, which continues to worsen despite calls for action.

While the CRA acknowledged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive for security forces to intensify their efforts, it advised that such measures must go beyond symbolic gestures. The CRA urged the Federal Government to ensure that security operatives are held accountable and that defaulters face consequences, signaling that the fight against banditry must be firm and sustained.

Furthermore, the CRA cautioned state governors against politicizing the crisis. “The organization called on them to address the situation with honesty and integrity, acknowledging the true nature of the violence without evasion or denial, and not to politicize the renewed killings but should be honourable enough to call a spade by its real name.”

“The current situation demands not only a clear recognition of the threat but also an unwavering commitment to action,” the CRA statement concluded.

As the security situation in Benue and Plateau continues to deteriorate, the CRA’s appeal for a more comprehensive and genuine approach from both the federal and state governments becomes increasingly urgent.
