In a strong display of national unity, key political figures across party lines joined the Federal Government on Saturday for an inspection of critical road infrastructure projects—signaling a shift toward collaborative governance focused on results over rhetoric.

The Honourable Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, led the inspection of the Abuja–Kaduna and Suleja–Minna dual carriageways, accompanied by Deputy Chief Whip of the 10th Senate, Sen. Onyekachi Nwaebonyi, Minister of State for Works, Hon. Bello Goronyo, and PDP chieftain, Otunba Segun Showunmi.

According to a press release issued by Mohammed A. Ahmed, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Ministry, the tour was not just about technical assessments, but also about building public trust and demonstrating that infrastructure development transcends party politics.

The visit culminated in the termination of the contract with Salini Nigeria Ltd, responsible for the Suleja–Minna project, which had been abandoned for over 18 months. The road has now been declared an emergency project, to be executed under emergency procurement by CCECC and CGC.

“This is not about party; it’s about Nigeria,” Umahi said. “We’re taking swift action not just to fix the road, but to restore public confidence. Our documentation of the failed sections will ensure accountability.”

Showunmi, who had raised concerns over project delays, emphasized that his involvement was driven by patriotism, not politics. “This is about shared responsibility. I came here to see things for myself and speak the truth. When leadership performs, it deserves honest acknowledgment,” he said.

Senator Nwaebonyi and Hon. Goronyo echoed the call for unity, stressing that development must take precedence over political affiliations. “What we’re doing here is proof that governance can be inclusive,” said Goronyo.

The Abuja–Kaduna road, meanwhile, is seeing rapid progress, with over 11 kilometres already reconstructed using reinforced concrete for a 100-year lifespan. The Ministry cited President Tinubu’s continued support as a key enabler of progress.

As the inspection concluded, the message was clear: when leaders across divides unite, national progress is not only possible—it is inevitable.
