Lokoja, Kogi State – January 14, 2026 – The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kogi State has called on its members to remain steadfast and loyal to the party’s ideals, despite the recent influx of political heavyweights.

According to a press release by the party’s state secretary, Honorable Mamman Akpena, he delivered the charge during a screening exercise for candidates participating in the upcoming Kogi State local government elections, held on Wednesday in Lokoja.

Hon. Akpena expressed concern over new entrants reportedly joining the party through unofficial channels, registering at zonal offices rather than their local wards. He praised long-standing members for resisting inducements and remaining committed to the party’s vision, noting that such dedication continues to receive support from the national leader, Hon. Leke Abejide.

“The virtues of members who have resisted all temptations and gifts waved to lure them to other sides of the party cannot be overstated. Your loyalty will continue to receive recognition from our national leadership,” Hon. Akpena said.

The screening exercise, which included chairmanship and deputy chairmanship candidates, aimed to familiarize participants with updated guidelines issued by the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC). Addressing rumors that ADC members had been barred from participating in the October elections, the Secretary clarified that forms had been obtained from SIEC and distributed to members for completion and submission.

Hon. Akpena expressed optimism over the enthusiasm shown by members, noting that ADC candidates are now present in all 21 local government areas of the state. He urged members to remain focused on the elections and not be distracted by ongoing national disputes regarding the party’s leadership, adding: “Our case at the national level is like David and Goliath. By the time the court settles the matter, many of the prominent names currently making claims will either seek space elsewhere or be humbled by the truth. Our victory lies in the law and the courts.”
