The Northern Nigeria Minorities Group (NNMG) has expressed support for the Federal Government’s newly approved Renewed Hope Development Plan for 2026–2030, describing it as a critical policy window for addressing long-standing economic and governance challenges.

Approved by the National Economic Council (NEC) under the chairmanship of Vice President Kashim Shettima, the medium-term framework is designed to replace the 2021–2025 national development plan and aligns with Nigeria’s ambition of attaining a $1 trillion economy by 2030.

Reacting to the policy approval, the group said the blueprint provides a structured pathway for consolidating economic reforms while placing emphasis on infrastructure expansion, job creation, human capital development, and food security.

NNMG noted that these focus areas directly reflect conditions in many Northern communities, where persistent poverty, unemployment, and limited access to basic public services continue to constrain growth.

The group also pointed to the plan’s private sector–led growth model, identifying priority sectors such as energy, agriculture, manufacturing, digital services, and housing as essential drivers of productivity, investment inflows, and long-term competitiveness.

Beyond its economic focus, NNMG welcomed the consultative process behind the development plan, which involved federal, state, and local governments alongside civil society organisations and private sector stakeholders, describing the approach as consistent with democratic planning principles.

It further drew attention to key policy instruments within the framework, including the 2026 Growth Acceleration and Investment Mobilisation Strategy (GAIMS), which targets a 5.5 per cent Gross Domestic Product growth rate. Other initiatives highlighted include revenue optimisation through the RevOps platform, ward-based development budgeting, and the digitization of national examinations.

While acknowledging the plan’s potential, the group stressed that outcomes would ultimately depend on disciplined execution. It called for transparency, strict monitoring, and measurable results, particularly in marginalized and underserved regions.

The position was contained in a press statement signed by Chief Jacob Edi, Convener of the Northern Nigeria Minorities Group (NNMG).
