The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has earned a place among Nigeria’s best-performing government agencies in the 2025 Business Facilitation Act (BFA) Compliance Assessment by the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC), following improvements in the delivery of its trade-related services.
Assistant Comptroller of Customs Abdullahi Maiwada, the National Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Customs Service, said in a statement issued on Tuesday that the assessment released by the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) on Friday, July 3, 2026, ranked the Service among the highest-performing Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
According to the report, the Service met all prescribed compliance requirements while improving the speed, efficiency and responsiveness of its services to importers, exporters and other stakeholders engaged in international trade.
PEBEC Director-General, Zahrah Audu, said the performance demonstrates the Customs Service’s commitment to efficient service delivery and aligns with the Federal Government’s Ease of Doing Business reforms aimed at creating a more transparent and investor-friendly business environment.
She added that the agency’s consistent focus on operational efficiency and stakeholder satisfaction contributed significantly to its performance in the assessment.
Audu also said that 98 per cent of the 69 Ministries, Departments and Agencies evaluated under the Business Facilitation Act now comply with the required service delivery standards, an indication that the reforms introduced under the Act are producing measurable improvements across the public sector.
The Customs Service’s recognition comes amid ongoing efforts to modernise customs administration through reforms such as the B’Odogwu Unified Customs Management System, the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) Programme and the Advance Ruling System.
The initiatives are designed to simplify import and export procedures, shorten cargo clearance time and improve transparency in customs operations, strengthening Nigeria’s trade facilitation framework and supporting economic growth.
