Royal father pledges community collaboration against drug abuse

The traditional ruler of Michika in Adamawa State, His Royal Majesty, Prof. Bulus Luka Gadiga, has praised the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), for his exemplary leadership and unwavering commitment to the fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.

During a courtesy visit to the NDLEA headquarters in Abuja on Monday, November 10, the monarch, who led members of his council, described Marwa as a man whose integrity and passion have elevated the image of the agency and inspired confidence in its operations nationwide.

According to a statement by Femi Babafemi, Director, Media and Advocacy at NDLEA, the royal father said the visit was to appreciate Marwa for his years of contribution to the development of Michika through infrastructure, scholarships, and youth empowerment initiatives. He added that Marwa’s dedication aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s agenda to eradicate illicit drugs, noting that his achievements “are visible for all to see.”

Prof. Gadiga further disclosed that he had written to churches and mosques in Michika to emphasize zero tolerance for drug abuse and trafficking, pledging closer collaboration with NDLEA in sensitization and enforcement efforts.

In his response, Marwa congratulated the monarch on his appointment to the exalted stool, describing him as a respected academic and community leader whose support would strengthen the agency’s grassroots outreach.

He stressed that the fight against drug abuse requires collective participation from all sectors of society. “The drug scourge affects every community,” Marwa said. “It’s not a fight for NDLEA alone, traditional institutions, religious leaders, communities, and families must all be involved.”

Marwa also urged youths to stay away from drugs, warning that substance abuse destroys health, families, and the moral fabric of society. He encouraged the monarch to establish a local drug control committee within his domain to ensure continued engagement with the agency.

Members of the monarch’s entourage included Gen. Bitrus Kangye (rtd), Ambassador Ibrahim Mohammed Bashir, Dr. John Quaghe, and Halima Buba.
