Jigawa State’s road network is seeing significant improvements as the Federal Government advances key infrastructure projects across the North-West Zone. A recent National Media Tour showcased ongoing works and the commissioning of emergency and special intervention roads.

According to Mohammed A. Ahmed, Director of Information and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Works, the tour aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises infrastructure and transportation as drivers of growth. He said it highlighted the administration’s commitment to durable roads while drawing praise from host communities.

In Gumel, the Federal Controller of Works in Jigawa State, Engr. Yusuf Mahmoud, reported that the 117-kilometre Phase 1 reconstruction of the Kwanar Danja–Tsalle–Hadejia Road, executed by Gerawa Global Engineering (Nigeria) Plc, has reached about 75 per cent completion. The project involves rebuilding the carriageway, installing culverts, and constructing lined drains to protect surrounding communities from flooding.

Engr. Mahmoud acknowledged earlier delays due to advance payment and budgetary challenges but said these have been resolved. “Nearly 79 kilometres have been reconstructed. Construction continues simultaneously from Gumel and Hadejia, with two gangs deployed to accelerate delivery,” he said. Project Manager Engr. Ibrahim Abubakar confirmed full mobilisation of equipment and personnel, targeting completion before December 2026.

During the tour, the team also inspected the 47-kilometre Kunya–Kanya–Babura–Babban Mutum Road, managed by CRCC Construction Company (Nigeria) Limited. Engr. Mahmoud said the project is 82 per cent complete, with about 37 kilometres rehabilitated.
Once finished, the road—near the Nigeria–Niger border—will enhance cross-border trade, facilitate agricultural transport, and strengthen regional connectivity. CRCC Project Manager Mr. Du For highlighted strong Nigeria–China collaboration and adherence to approved specifications.

Residents along both corridors welcomed the improvements. Malam Audu Ibrahim said, “The government is trying, and we really like the President because of the road. It has opened up business opportunities.” Community representatives also called for additional drainage infrastructure to prevent recurrent flooding.

At the close of the tour, the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Community Engagement (North-West), Hon. Abdullahi Tanko Yakasai, described the projects as critical to Jigawa’s agrarian economy. He emphasised alignment with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and commended the Minister of Works, Sen. Engr. David Umahi, the Minister of State, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, and all stakeholders for their sustained efforts to improve Nigeria’s road infrastructure.
