Bauchi State communities are witnessing a boost in road safety and flood control following a series of Federal Government interventions across key transport corridors. These projects are part of the Renewed Hope Agenda spearheaded by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, aimed at improving infrastructure, connectivity, and local economies.
According to a press release from Mohammed A. Ahmed, Director, Information and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Works, the North-East Zone National Media Tour and Commissioning of Emergency and Special Intervention Projects kicked off in Bauchi on Sunday, 8 February 2026, highlighting the 35-kilometre Bauchi–Gombe Road. The corridor, which links Bauchi with Gombe, Adamawa, and Taraba States, was awarded in 2024 to Triacta (Nigeria) Limited for nearly ₦40 billion. The rehabilitation work is expected to reduce accidents, cut travel time, and boost socio-economic activities across the North-East.
In addition to the Bauchi–Gombe Road, the government commissioned emergency drainage and culvert repairs along the Bauchi–Darazo–Kari–Potiskum Road. A collapsed 3-cell concrete-lined pipe culvert at Konkiyel Town and a 2-cell culvert at Sauke Village were restored, ending the perennial flooding that had long disrupted transport and damaged farmlands. Officials said these interventions are critical to protecting federal road assets and ensuring safe and reliable access for local communities.
Engr. David Nweze Umahi, the Honourable Minister of Works, represented by Comrade Umar Saidu, Bauchi State NUJ Chairman, described the projects as transformative. “These interventions provide lasting relief to communities, prevent recurring flood damage, and enhance socio-economic wellbeing,” he said.
Engineer Bashiru Adamu, Federal Controller of Works in Bauchi State, explained that the projects form part of 260 emergency interventions nationwide, aimed at addressing critical infrastructure failures. He highlighted the role of culverts and concrete drains in keeping roads, farmlands, and communities safe while increasing resilience against climate change.
Professional bodies also praised the projects. Engineer Ibrahim Ahmed of the Bauchi State Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) commended the engagement of licensed engineers, while Engineer Shehu Wakili, Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (Bauchi Branch), emphasized the importance of maintenance and complementary environmental initiatives such as tree planting.
Project Manager Joseph Samaha of Triacta (Nigeria) Limited confirmed that rehabilitation works, including drainage construction, binder courses, and asphalt surfacing on the Bauchi–Gombe Road, are progressing according to schedule, with full completion expected later this year.
Local leaders also expressed gratitude. Mallam Zakari Ya’u, Head of Sauke Village, said the interventions have prevented annual flooding, safeguarded farmlands, and improved movement for residents. He pledged the communities’ support in maintaining the infrastructure to ensure lasting benefits.
The Bauchi interventions highlight the Federal Government’s commitment to enhancing regional connectivity, driving economic growth, and strengthening climate resilience across Nigeria’s North-East Zone.
