The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to completing major road projects in Yobe State, promising that ongoing works under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, will meet scheduled deadlines. The projects are designed to restore deteriorated roads, improve connectivity, and support economic and social activities across the state and surrounding communities.

On Monday, 9 February 2026, officials of the Federal Ministry of Works led a media tour and commissioning of key interventions in Yobe. The event, spearheaded by the Federal Controller of Works (FCW), Engr. Nasir Dauda, included representatives from the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Damaturu Branch, contractors, community leaders, and members of the media.

At the Potiskum–Jakusko–Gashua road site, Section I, Engr. Dauda confirmed the timely completion of the ₦75.47 billion project. Awarded to Messrs JRB Construction Limited in 2024, the 79.4-kilometre road, constructed on continuous reinforced concrete pavement (CRCP), is scheduled for completion by 14 May 2026. Work commenced from Chainage 49, the most critical stretch affected by erosion and flooding. Project Manager Engr. Kabir Fatai reported that over 1.5 kilometres of pavement have been laid, with priority given to vulnerable sections ahead of the rainy season.

The inspection team also inaugurated a 490-metre access road at the College of Administration, Management and Technology (CAMTECH), Potiskum, completed within three months. Engr. Dauda explained that the intervention was aimed at easing movement for staff and students. The Rector, Mallam Ibrahim Bomai Zarma, lauded the project, while the NSE Chairman emphasised its significance for academic and institutional activities.

Additional roads commissioned included CABS/Graveyard Road and the Limited Rehabilitation of Hayin Gada Road in Potiskum. These interventions form part of the Federal Government’s 260 emergency and special projects nationwide, intended to restore local access, enhance safety, and improve transportation within and around the communities.

Mr. Usman Mohammed, Vice-Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Yobe State Council, commissioned the projects on behalf of the Honourable Minister of Works, Senator Engr. David Umahi, CON, FNSE, FNATE. He also commissioned the 8.8-kilometre Damagum–Gubana Road, completed by Messrs Petropan Energy Limited at a cost of ₦1.49 billion. Engr. Dauda highlighted the road’s role in connecting agrarian communities and facilitating the transportation of farm produce. Alhaji Idris Mai Saleh, Yerima of Fune and District Head of Damagum, thanked the Federal Government for supporting local livelihoods.

The team concluded its inspection at the 54.5-kilometre Kaleyeri–Damaturu Road, awarded in 2019 to Messrs Ric Rock Construction Limited. Engr. Dauda confirmed that the contractor has fully resumed operations, with earthworks ongoing in two sections and three kilometres of binder course already completed. He assured residents that the project will be delivered on schedule, highlighting the Federal Government’s continued commitment to infrastructure development and economic growth in Yobe State.
