Former Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Elder Simon Achuba, has hailed the appointment of Major General Waidi Shaibu as Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, describing the move by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as timely for improving national security.
Achuba, in a statement he personally signed, said the elevation of the Kogi-born senior officer reflects recognition of his professional excellence and years of dedicated military service. He noted that Major General Shaibu’s operational expertise would be critical in addressing the country’s persistent security challenges.
He stressed that Nigeria needs decisive and innovative security leadership to rebuild public trust, expressing confidence that the new Army Chief possesses the discipline and competence required to reshape the security landscape.
Achuba urged other service chiefs to work collaboratively with Major General Shaibu to strengthen defence coordination and enhance efforts to safeguard citizens and protect Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
He added that President Tinubu’s choice demonstrates the federal government’s commitment to building a combat-ready, responsive, and people-focused Army capable of confronting emerging threats.
The former Deputy Governor congratulated the people of Kogi State on the appointment and prayed for divine wisdom and success for the new Chief of Army Staff as he assumes the responsibilities of his office.
