The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) have formalised a strategic partnership designed to enhance professional training, institutional collaboration, and service delivery across Nigeria’s aviation and meteorological sectors.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed at NiMet’s headquarters in Abuja by the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of NiMet, Prof. Charles Anosike, and the Rector of NCAT, Dr. Danjuma Ismaila. The agreement signals a renewed commitment by both institutions to deepen technical cooperation and strengthen capacity development initiatives.
According to details of the MoU, the two agencies will collaborate on the utilisation of training facilities, provide advisory support for aviation training programmes, and deliver specialised long- and short-term courses tailored for NiMet personnel. The framework also provides for staff exchange programmes and joint training initiatives aimed at promoting knowledge transfer and institutional synergy.
A key component of the partnership includes the use of NiMet’s Training School in Oshodi, Lagos, for aviation training programmes aligned with the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), reinforcing Nigeria’s compliance with international aviation requirements.
The collaboration is expected to cover critical professional areas such as aviation operations and management, safety management systems, crisis management, aviation security, air navigation systems, and airport operations. In addition, both institutions will jointly organise specialised programmes, including Diploma training in Aviation Meteorology.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Prof. Anosike reaffirmed NiMet’s commitment to sustained human capital development. He emphasised that continuous investment in training, technical collaboration, and strategic partnerships remains essential to achieving operational excellence and ensuring safe, efficient air navigation in Nigeria.
The partnership represents a structured approach to strengthening institutional capacity, enhancing regulatory compliance, and advancing professional standards within Nigeria’s aviation and meteorological landscape.
