As Muslims across Nigeria begin the Ramadan fast, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police overseeing Zone 7, Victor Olaiya, has extended goodwill messages to police personnel and residents of the Federal Capital Territory and Niger State, calling for unity, reflection and collective responsibility during the holy month.
In a statement released from the Zone 7 Police Headquarters, the AIG described Ramadan as a season of spiritual renewal and moral reflection, offering prayers for peace in homes, strength in service, and blessings upon the nation.
He noted that beyond fasting and prayer, the period should serve as a reminder of shared values such as tolerance, compassion and harmony, especially at a time when communities must work together to maintain peace and stability.
Alongside the goodwill message, the senior police officer issued a security advisory, urging residents of the Federal Capital Territory and Niger State to remain alert and cooperate fully with law enforcement agencies throughout Ramadan.
The Police warned that public spaces are often busier during the season, particularly prayer grounds, mosques, markets and recreational centres, with increased gatherings during Iftar, Juma’at and Taraweeh prayers. Residents were therefore advised to be cautious and observant in their surroundings.
According to the statement, any suspicious movement, abandoned items or unusual activities should be reported immediately to the nearest police station to enable swift response and prevent security breaches.

Reaffirming the Police commitment to public safety, the AIG stressed that security remains a shared responsibility, adding that vigilance, timely reporting and sustained collaboration between citizens and security agencies are essential to ensuring a peaceful and incident-free Ramadan.
