Group calls on new leadership to uphold professionalism and cleanse the media space of quacks

The Northern Nigeria Minorities Group (NNMG) has congratulated veteran editors, Danlami Nmodu, Sufuyan Ojeifo, and Kemi Yesufu on their emergence as President, Secretary-General, and Publicity Secretary, respectively, of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) in the just-concluded election.

In a congratulatory message signed by its Convener, Chief Jacob Edi, the group commended the newly elected GOCOP executives and other officers for earning the confidence of their colleagues through their proven integrity, competence, and commitment to the growth of ethical journalism in Nigeria.

“Their emergence is a strong affirmation of the trust and confidence reposed in their integrity, competence, and commitment to the advancement of ethical journalism,” the statement read.

The NNMG described the new leaders as exemplary professionals whose track records of fairness, depth, and responsibility reflect the true values of journalism in an increasingly digital media environment.

While congratulating all newly elected officials, the group urged the GOCOP leadership to intensify efforts to rid the profession of “fakes and quacks,” whose activities, it noted, continue to undermine public trust in journalism.

It further called on the Guild to establish clear standards and enforce guidelines for the operation of online news platforms to ensure professionalism, accountability, and credibility in the fast-growing digital media space.

The NNMG also encouraged the new executives to uphold the ideals of integrity, objectivity, and national responsibility, while promoting content that fosters unity and mutual understanding across Nigeria’s diverse communities.

“Once again, the NNMG warmly congratulates the new GOCOP leadership and wishes them a successful tenure defined by innovation, inclusivity, and excellence in service to the journalism profession and the nation,” the statement added.
