The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has announced the launch of the Nigeria Customs Service’s Management Information System (MIS) File Tracker, with PTML Area Command selected for the pilot rollout as part of efforts to deepen digital administration, improve operational efficiency and enhance service delivery.
Represented at the launch by the Deputy Comptroller-General in charge of ICT/Modernisation, DCC Oluyomi Adebakin, Adeniyi described the initiative as another milestone in the Nigeria Customs Service’s expanding modernisation agenda, aimed at improving operational efficiency, enhancing transparency and facilitating seamless trade through digital solutions.
In a press statement issued to journalists on Friday by the Public Relations Officer of the PTML Area Command, CSC Abdullahi T. Abubakar, Adeniyi said the Service remains committed to leveraging technology to transform its operations and improve service delivery, noting that the MIS File Tracker builds on landmark digital initiatives, including the Nigeria Trade Portal and the Customs Verification Management System.
He explained that the introduction of the MIS File Tracker would further strengthen PTML Area Command’s reputation as a centre for innovation within the Service by promoting faster and more efficient administrative processes.
According to him, the MIS is an enterprise-wide platform for Customs administrative processes, designed as a Single Sign-On (SSO) application that enables a unified data set to be used across all departments.
Adeniyi urged officers to maximise the platform for key administrative functions, including leave and pass applications, file tracking, duty rosters, internal staff orders, nominal rolls and other administrative processes.
“The platform also provides avenues for feedback on areas requiring modifications, additions and improvements,” he said, adding that the deployment is expected to streamline internal workflows, reduce manual processes and support data-driven decision-making across the Service.
PTML Area Command was selected for the pilot phase because of its reputation as one of the Nigeria Customs Service’s most technologically advanced commands. The command has previously served as the testing ground for several digital reforms, including the Unified Customs Management System (UCMS), also known as B’Odogwu.
Speaking at the event, the Acting Controller of PTML Area Command, Deputy Comptroller Nura Miko, expressed confidence in the command’s ability to successfully implement the new system and serve as a model for Customs innovation.
Miko said the command was maximising technology-driven trade facilitation initiatives introduced by the Customs management and thanked the Comptroller-General for the confidence reposed in the command.
He said that efforts were underway to reduce the cargo clearance time for compliant Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) cargoes from the current two hours to one hour.
Describing the MIS File Tracker as another bold step in the Service’s digital transformation, Miko said the initiative would help sustain the Nigeria Customs Service’s position as one of Africa’s leading customs administrations.
He pledged that PTML Area Command would justify the confidence reposed in it by ensuring the successful rollout of the MIS File Tracker from the pilot phase to full implementation.
