The management of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) welcomed the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, back to the Service Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja, following his return from Brussels, Belgium, where he secured a renewed one-year mandate as Chairperson of the Council of the World Customs Organization. He was received by the Service’s management team during a reception held at the headquarters on Monday.
According to a press statement issued by the National Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Customs Service, Assistant Comptroller of Customs Abdullahi Maiwada on Wednesday, the reception also provided an opportunity for the management team to congratulate Adeniyi on the recent six-month extension of his appointment as Comptroller-General by Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
During the reception, senior officers presented Adeniyi with a commemorative souvenir in recognition of his exemplary leadership and contributions to the growth and transformation of the Nigeria Customs Service.
Adeniyi earned the renewed international mandate during the 147th and 148th Sessions of the World Customs Organization Council, where member administrations renewed his tenure as Chairperson for another year in recognition of his leadership and commitment to advancing global customs administration.
Speaking at the reception, the Comptroller-General expressed appreciation to the management team and personnel of the Service for their unwavering support, describing the honour as a reflection of the unity, dedication and shared commitment that continue to drive the Nigeria Customs Service.
He said that he travelled to Brussels expecting to hand over the chairmanship of the WCO Council at the end of his tenure but was instead entrusted with another one-year mandate by members of the Council.
“I sincerely appreciate your support. I went to Brussels believing I was going to hand over, but the outcome was different. The Council renewed my tenure for another one year, and I dedicate this achievement to the entire Nigeria Customs Service,” Adeniyi said.
The renewed international mandate, alongside the extension of his tenure as Comptroller-General, is expected to strengthen the Nigeria Customs Service’s ongoing reform agenda, deepen international partnerships and advance trade facilitation efforts, while underscoring growing confidence in Adeniyi’s leadership both within the Service and across the global customs community.
