The Federal Ministry of Works has refuted reports linking Mikano International Limited to the Abuja–Kaduna Road project, describing the claim as false and misleading.
Addressing journalists in Abuja on Thursday, the Minister of Works, David Nweze Umahi, said the contract was duly awarded to Infiouest International Limited in accordance with established procurement laws and transparency standards.
Umahi stressed that the clarification was necessary to correct public misinformation and reaffirm the ministry’s commitment to openness in the award and execution of federal road projects.
The minister also provided updates on road projects previously funded under Executive Order 007 by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, clarifying that the arrangement has now changed.
According to him, NNPCL will no longer directly pay contractors handling those projects. He explained that the Federal Ministry of Works has officially taken over full responsibility for project supervision and contractor payments, in line with new federal directives.
Umahi disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the release of ₦127 billion to ensure the continuation of the affected projects, underscoring the administration’s resolve to complete inherited infrastructure initiatives.
He added that an estimated ₦7 trillion would be required to complete all NNPCL-funded road projects nationwide, describing them as critical to national connectivity and economic development.
The minister reiterated that the Federal Government remains committed to transparency, accountability and continuity in infrastructure delivery, assuring Nigerians that ongoing projects will be executed in line with national development priorities.
